Renata H. Pingel, age 90, of Storm Lake, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2003, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Renata H. (Gutz) Pingel, the daughter of Carl and Clara (Meyer) Gutz, was born on October 30, 1912, in rural Storm Lake. She grew up near and attended Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Renata also attended and graduated from Zion School. Upon graduation, she completed two years of nurses training and worked at the Swallum Hospital, now known as the Methodist Manor, until her marriage.

On June 12, 1938, Renata was united in marriage to Waldo Pingel at Zion Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with three children: Karolyn, Corinne and Galen. Together they farmed in several locations including Storm Lake, near Zion Lutheran Church, and Sioux Rapids along with their main farming location in Linn Grove.

Renata was a devoted wife and mother. She found one of the greatest joys in raising her family. This past summer, she and Waldo celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Carl and Clara Gutz; three brothers, Delbert, Paul and Ewald Gutz; and one sister, Marcella Munhofen.

Renata is survived by her husband, Waldo Pingel, of Storm Lake; two daughters: Karolyn Robbins, and her husband, Charles, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Corinne Bode, and her husband, James, of Orange, California; one son, Galen Pingel, and his wife, Karen, of Little Rock, Arkansas; three grandsons: Darrin Bode, and his wife, Barbara, of Los Angeles, California, Jon Pingel, and his wife, Beth, of Bryant, Arkansas, and Matthew Bode, of Los Angeles, California; two great granddaughters: Michelle Pingel and Samantha Pingel and many other loving relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Steve Schulz officiating. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Sliefert ~ Asmus Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Concordia Lutheran School in Storm Lake.
