Mary C. Smith
March 1, 1924 - [September 25, 2003]*

Mary Smith was born in Storm Lake on March 1, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Cordelia Demers Coakley. She attended college at Bowling Green, Ohio, and at Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas. She married Joseph J. Smith on June 4, 1947, in Storm Lake.

Mary was a homemaker who helped her husband with the Smith Insurance Agency in Bellevue for twenty years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Bellevue Garden Club. Mary was a journalist, photographer, painter and master gardener.

Survivors include her husband; her son, Douglas Smith, of Clive; her daughters, Linda (Joe) Williams, of Moreland, Georgia, and Michelle (Fred) Manthey, of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren and one sister, Frances (Harold) Lewis of Pomeroy.

Funeral Services for Mary C. Smith, 79, of Bellevue, formerly of Storm Lake, were held Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellevue with Reverend Stephen Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery, Bellevue.
