March 12, 1902 - September 24, 2003

Anna K. Owings, 101, of Rembrandt, formerly of Storm Lake, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Anna Katherine (Schott) Owings, the daughter of Claus and Elizabeth (Dahm) Schott, was born in Föckbek, Germany, March 12, 1902. She lived with her parents in Germany and later moved to New York City and then to Holstein.

Anna was united in marriage to Melville Owings, and this union was blessed with two children, Bill and Judy.

In 1945, they moved from Holstein to Storm Lake where they were in the turkey business. Later they operated a duck and goose hatchery in Storm Lake until Anna's retirement in 1981.

Anna's Christian faith was important to her. She was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake.

Survivors include Anna's son, Bill Owings, and his wife, Beverly, of Phoenix, Arizona; her daughter, Judy Ripke, and her husband, Mel, of Rembrandt; her grandchildren: Randy Ripke, and his wife, Beth, of Rembrandt, Michelle Huff, and her husband, Shawn, of Rembrandt, Jeff Owings, and his wife, Iris, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Tami Owings-Mephan, and her husband, Mark, of Darken Western, Australia; her great-grandchildren: Heather Harter, and her husband, Aaron, of Carlisle, Jennifer Swalley, John Swalley and Michael Owings, all of Phoenix, Arizona, and Michael Ripke, Bradley Ripke, Christopher Ripke and Tyler Huff, all of Rembrandt; and great great-grandchildren: Stevie Harter and Zachery Harter of Carlise.

Preceding Anna in death were her parents, Claus Schott and Elizabeth Goselin; her brothers, Henry Schott and Alfred Schott; her husband, Melville Owings; her granddaughter, Melanie Ripke and her great-grandson, Matthew Purvis.

A funeral service was held on Monday, September 29, 2003, at the Sliefert-Asmus Funeral Home in Storm Lake with Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Sliefert-Asmus Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
