Palma B. Hughes
April 16, 1904 - July 28, 2003

Palma B. Hughes, 99, of Storm Lake, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2003, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

A daughter of Ole Christian and Martha Rugroden, Palma B. Hughes was born on April 16, 1904, in Heartland, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in Heartland.

Palma married Leonard Hughes, and they were blessed with two sons, Harold and Roger. They made their home in Storm Lake where they owned and operated Hughes Plumbing and Heating for thirty-five years. Palma was also a Nursing Aide, working at the Methodist Manor for fifteen years until her retirement.

A member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, she valued her Christian faith. Palma enjoyed quilting. She also cherished spending time with her family who loved her very much.

Preceding Palma in death were her parents, Ole Christian and Martha; her husband, Leonard; two children: Harold Richard Hughes and Roger James Hughes; her grandson, Michael John Hughes; two sisters: Stella Dally and Elsie Durrant; and her brother, Orville Maynard Rugroden.

Palma is survived by four grandchildren, Mark Steven Hughes, of Des Moines, Paula Martin, of Eighty-Four, Pennsylvania, Daniel Hughes, of Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania, and Cory Hughes of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nora Hendrickson, Myrtle Back and Clara Thieman, all of Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the Sliefert-Asmus Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Sliefert-Asmus Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
