James Paul Durst
March 4, 1945 - August 7, 2003James Paul Durst, 58, of Albert City, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2003, at his home after fighting a prolonged battle with cancer.
A son of Paul and Regina (Kirkwood) Durst, he was born on March 4, 1945, in Spencer. He was baptized and confirmed at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer and was raised in the Spencer area, graduating from Spencer High School in 1963. After graduation, he entered the United States Army and was stationed at Nuerenberg, Germany, from 1963 until 1966.
On November 19, 1967, Jim was united in marriage to Connie Fritz at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Newell. This union was blessed with three boys, Chad, Jason and Ryan, all of whom Jim was so very proud. Jim enjoyed going to the boys' many sporting activities. He also enjoyed listening to music, working on his backyard ponds, woodworking and spending time with family and friends.
Jim had served as a member of the Albert City Fire Department and was an EMT on the Ambulance Crew. He was a current member of the American Legion and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Jim worked for Ag Partners of Albert City in the agronomy department from 1978 until his illness in 2001.
Jim is survived by his wife, Connie, and their three boys, Chad and Ryan, of Mason City and Jason, and his wife, Sherri, of Byron, Minnesota; his stepmother, Mardella Durst, of Spencer; his two sisters, Judy Haulman, and her husband, John, and their family of Pahrump, Nevada, and Jeannie, and her husband, Dave Fitz, of Ames; one brother, Jerry Durst, of Washta; four stepsisters, Sandy Stone, and her family of Cedar Falls, Joyce Bailey, and her family of Laurens, Donna Drake, and her husband, Joe, and their family of Des Moines, and Connie Seaman, and her husband, Greg, and their family of Dickens; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Paul and Regina Durst.
Jim was a very loving husband, devoted father and a great friend to all.
A funeral service was held on Monday, August 11, 2003, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City with Reverend David Bernhardt officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City with military rites provided by the American Legion Post No. 299 of Albert City. The Sliefert-Asmus Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
