Ralph Waldo Willeford
November 1, 1926 - July 9, 2003

Ralph Waldo Willeford, 76, of Sioux Rapids, passed away on July 9, 2003.

Waldo was born November 1, 1926, to John and Iva Willeford. He belonged to the Baptist Church of Marathon. He joined the army when he was nineteen years old and was honorably discharged. On Sept. 12, 1949, Waldo was united in marriage to Shirley Joan Ensley in Mason City, and eight children were born to this union.

Waldo was a policeman for several years. He also drove trucks for a number of years. He later began working for the Buena Vista County Jail and became the head jailer, a position he held for several years. He retired from the Buena Vista County Jail.

Waldo enjoyed fishing, camping, having coffee downtown in the morning with his friends and spending time with his kids, grandkids, family and friends.

Waldo is survived by his four daughters: Mary Klatt, and her husband, Jim, of Sioux Rapids, Linda Henrich, and her husband, Steve, of Arnolds Park, Tina Young, and her husband, Brian, of Galva, and Penny Lee, and her husband, Perry, of Storm Lake; his four sons: John Willeford, and his wife, Cheryl, of Blue Rapids, Kansas, Billy Willeford, and his wife, Peg, of Storm Lake, Dennis Willeford, and his wife, Dana, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Arthur Willeford of Spirit Lake.

Also surviving are nineteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; twelve step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Jensen and one brother, Darrell Willeford, both of Springfield, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents, John and Iva Willeford; and one sister, June Willeford.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids with Pastor Esta Fraley officiating. Interment was in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert-Asmus Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
