Francis Koehlmoos, age 78, of Des Moines, Iowa, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died November 17, 2010, in Des Moines.
Francis Koehlmoos was born June 30, 1932, in Germantown, Iowa, the son of Fred and Gertrude Koehlmoos. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown.
Growing up, Francis attended school through the 8th grade at Germantown Country School.
Following school, Francis worked on the farm to help provide for the family. After his father died, his family moved into Paullina and he worked for the elevator and also cared for his mother until she died. He also was a livestock handler at IBP.
On August 30, 1980, Francis was united in marriage to Delores Nissen in Paullina, Iowa.
Francis was a great family man and loved his grandchildren. Despite his deteriorating health, he walked his granddaughter down the aisle on her wedding day.
A handyman who could fix anything, he helped manage motels with Delores.
Francis enjoyed going to Branson, Missouri, with his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 30 years, Delores Koehlmoos, of Des Moines, Iowa; his children: Vicki Movall, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Kathi (Leon) Wipperling, of Alta, Iowa, and Tony (Julie Christiansen) Ebel, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his seven grandchildren: Kimberly and Alvaro Velazquez, of Sioux City, Iowa, Derek Movall, of Alta, Iowa, Dillon and Dustin Ebel, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Katlin and Madlin Wipperling, of Alta, Iowa; his sisters: Shirley (Jim) Tesch, of Germantown, Iowa, and Pat (Jim) Caster, of Sun City, Arizona; his brothers: Verdis (Carol) Koehlmoos, of Spencer, Iowa, Richard (Barb) Koehlmoos, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Robert (Betty) Koehlmoos, of Cherokee, Iowa; his brother-in-law, Jim Mauser, of Des Moines, Iowa; his special friends, Gordy (Shirley) Rohrs, of Paullina, Iowa; and extended family and friends.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Gertrude Koehlmoos; his sisters: Phyllis Mauser, Marlene Koehlmoos, and Mildred Tesch; and one grandson, Johnathon Wipperling.
Visitation: 5-8:00 p.m., November 19, 2010, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., November 20, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Alta, Iowa
