October 3, 1912 - June 12, 2003

Ruby Anna Turner, age 90, of Storm Lake, passed away on June 12, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Ruby Anna Anderson Turner was born on October 3, 1912, on her parents' farm 3 miles southeast of Galva. She was the daughter of John A. and Anna (Jensen) Anderson. She attended Galva School and graduated in 1930. She was baptized in the Galva Methodist Church and later became a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake.

In August of 1931, Ruby graduated from Thompson's School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines and passed the Iowa State Board of Cosmetology in September of the same year. She was a beautician in Galva for one year before moving to Storm Lake where she was hired by Ray Turner of Turner Brother's Barber and Beauty Salon.

On November 9, 1940, Ruby Anna Anderson and William Raymond Turner were united in marriage at Fort Dodge. They raised two children, Donna Rae (Vander Linden) and William John "Bill."

Ruby loved her family, her town, the lake and life in Iowa. She was especially fond of fishing, playing bridge and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her great sense of humor allowed her always to see the bright side of life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Vernon and Clifford, and her husband.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Vander Linden and her husband Lonnie, of Webster, South Dakota; her son, William John "Bill" Turner, of Storm Lake; three grandchildren: Jill Hossley and her husband Allen, of Tyler, Texas, Todd Vander Linden, and Christopher Vander Linden, both of Webster, South Dakota; two great-grandchildren: Katherine Alexis and Kaitlin Anna Hossley, both of Tyler, Texas; one nephew, James Anderson and his wife Ann, of Englewood, Colorado; two nieces: Aletha Stephen and her husband, Roger of Storm Lake and Nancy Kellbaum of Varina, and many friends.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the Sliefert - Asmus Funeral Home in Storm Lake with Reverend Jamie Cutler of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Sliefert - Asmus Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
