Michael J. Meusburger, age 58, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died November 9, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Micheal J. Meusburger, the son of Merle “Mike” and Jessie (Means) Meusburger, was born in Lake City, Iowa, on April 24, 1952. Mike lived his youth in Truesdale and attended school in Truesdale through the 6th grade. He, then, attended Albert City-Truesdale High School in Albert City where he graduated with the Class of 1970. He continued his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake.

Mike was confirmed at the Truesdale United Methodist Church in 1965 and served as president of the MYF. He also participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Micheal was united in marriage to Teresa Buse on August 15, 1971, in Albert City, Iowa. This couple was blessed with two children: Misty and Cory. Mike and Teresa later divorced. Micheal and Kelly Cheevers exchanged their wedding vows on July 5, 1996.

Early in his business career, Mike worked with his father for Quad States Builders from Des Moines, Iowa. He was always affiliated with the lumber business and worked at lumberyards in Denison, Albert City, Ruthven, as well as at Schoeneman Lumber in Spencer and United Building Center in Storm Lake. Mike retired in 2000 because of his health. He and Kelly also owned and operated the Circle M Bar in Truesdale for 10 years, selling the business in 2002. He was very civic minded and served on the Truesdale City Council and later became the mayor of Truesdale for 4 years.

Mike was very athletic. When he was younger, he participated in high school football and track, and he also wrestled in the state tournament in Des Moines. He continued to give his son pointers in football even when he could no longer play the game. Mike loved being outdoors and spending time camping with his family. He was a well traveled person who enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Spain, Hawaii, Paris, France, Minnesota, and Missouri.

Mike will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family which include his wife, Kelly, of Truesdale; his children: Misty and Reid Jensen, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Cory and Kari Meusburger, of Sioux City, Iowa; two step-children: Josh Mahler, and his special friend, Jeni, of Paullina, Iowa, and Chad Mahler, and his special friend, Jessica, of Sutherland, Iowa; his grandchildren: Addison, Alexander and Genevieve Jensen and Meah and Micah Meusburger; his step-grandchildren: Corbin, Braden, and Kylin Mahler; his mother, Jessie Meusburger, of Truesdale, Iowa; three brothers and their wives: Jeffery and Terry Meusburger, of Tyler, Minnesota, Allan and Deb Meusburger, of Laurens, Iowa, and Kelly and Lisa Meusburger, of Schaller, Iowa; his sister and brother-in-law, Joleen and John Owen, of Aurelia, Iowa; as well as his aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Merle “Mike” Meusburger; and his father- and mother-in-law, Howard and Pearl Cheevers.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
