John Bernard Arnts, age 80, of Clarence, Missouri, and formerly of Alta, Iowa, died November 1, 2010, at his home in Missouri.
John Bernard Arnts was born January 13, 1930, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Zena (Lansink) Arnts. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was raised on the family farm in rural Alta, Iowa, where he attended Maple Valley # 8 Country School in rural Alta and later graduated from Alta High School in 1948.
Following high school graduation, John began farming until he enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country during the Korean Conflict as a medic until he was honorably discharged.
In 1963, John was united in marriage to Mary Ann Taylor in Omaha, Nebraska. Together they made their home in Bedford, Iowa. During this time, they enjoyed traveling all over the United States. After Mary Ann’s health diminished, they moved to Clarence, Missouri, where they purchased the Trails End Motel. This employment allowed him to care for Mary Ann.
John was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in Clarence. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and listening to music.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters: Mary (Mike) Rath of Grand Meadows, Minnesota, and Josephine Goeser of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Eileen Arnts, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his brother-in-law, Harold Ness of Rembrandt, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann, in 1994; an infant brother, Francis; his sisters, Sr. Elise (Agnes) Arnts and Margaret Ness; his brother, Joseph Arnts; and his brother-in-law, Vincent Goeser.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. November 06, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller, Iowa
