Carolyn H. Eichhorn, age 95, of Moline, Illinois, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Trinity Hospital in Rock Island, Illinois.

Carolyn Helena Frasch, the daughter of Adolph and Helen (Ulmer) Frasch, was born on May 11, 1915, in Menno, South Dakota. She was confirmed in German, at the German Lutheran Evangelical Church in Menno. As a teenager, she sang German hymns and played the organ for their church services.

At the age of three, Carolyn was diagnosed with polio. Later in life, the polio reoccurred and she dealt with post-polio syndrome. Her favorite president was Franklin D. Roosevelt because of his polio symptoms and his fireside chats to the nation.

Carolyn was a graduate of the Menno High School. She continued her education at the Yankton College where she graduated Cum Laude in 1936 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She earned a double major in Latin and biology and a double minor in English and piano. During these years, her family moved to Remsen, Iowa.

Following her college graduation, she moved to Chicago and worked for Carson Pierre Scott Department Store. Her older brother, Filmore also worked and lived in Chicago during that time.

On June 10, 1937, Carolyn was united in marriage to Milton Eichhorn in Remsen, Iowa. This couple was blessed with four children: Kay, Kyle, Karie and Karis. They moved to Texas and spent a number of years living in various Texas communities. In 1945, they moved back to Sioux City, Iowa. After a brief stay in Sioux City, Carolyn, Milton, and Kay moved to Storm Lake. From 1948 to 1958, they co-owned the Tiny Tot Shop. In 1958, the store moved to Lake Avenue and the name of the store became Tiny to Teen. The store remained in business from 1958 to 1988.

Carolyn lived most of her married lifetime in Storm Lake, residing at 500 Geneseo Street. In 1944, Carolyn and Milton joined the Lakeside Presbyterian Church where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school for many years. Milton passed away unexpectedly in 1980 from a heart attack. During her later years, Carolyn lived in Friendship Manor in Rock Island, Illinois.

Carolyn’s life will always be honored and cherished by her family which includes her children: Kay Merlis of Charlotte, North Carolina; Kyle and Connie Eichhorn of Omaha, Nebraska; Karie Martindale of Ottumwa, Iowa; and Karis and Paul Carther of Moline, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters: Doris Ehlert of Stockton, California and Margaret Bunjes of LeMars, Iowa; other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton; her brother, Filmore Frasch; and her sister, Betty Nitzschke.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. There will be no visitation. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
