Etta E. Caboth
September 10, 1908 - April 20, 2003

Etta E. Caboth, 94, Aurelia, was born on September 10,1908, on a farm near Storm Lake in Buena Vista County to Ehlar and Fredericke (Eikmeier) Suling. Etta delighted in telling about her birth taking place in the barn where the family was residing while they were remodeling their house. Growing up, she and her brother drove their horse and buggy to school each day at Hanover Parochial School.

Etta was baptized on October 11, 1908, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hanover and also confirmed there when she was fourteen years old. Etta held firm to her faith all her life. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Schaller where she was active in Ladies' Aid and Good Fellowship until her health began failing, forcing her to leave the farm and reside at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia.

On October 10, 1929, Etta and Chris Caboth eloped in LeMars. Their marriage was blessed for over 59 years until Chris passed away in 1989. To this union, two sons were born, Donald and Milton.

Etta was a hard working farmer's wife who took pleasure in raising chickens, ducks, and geese. She shared her flock's bounty with gifts of down-feathered pillows. Gardening, flowers, and apple trees gave her another opportunity to give. She enjoyed seeing or hearing about family and friends. As an example of her continuing interest in life, she took up playing a guitar again. No one had to urge her to bring it out and strum "Let Me Call You Sweetheart".

Etta passed away Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chris; three brothers; and four sisters.

Etta is survived by two sons, Donald Caboth and his wife Sally, of Alta and Milton Caboth and his wife Darlene, of Alta; five grandchildren: Roxane Dutler of Galva, Donelle Olsen, of Sioux City, David Caboth of Wasilla, Alaska, Mark Caboth of Estherville, and Michelle Swanson of Aurelia; eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends.

Funeral services for Etta E. Caboth will be held Thursday, April 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Schaller with Reverend David E. Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Barker Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of arrangements.
