December 22, 1921 - April 15, 2003

Harry Dean Hollesen, age 81, of Sioux Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at his home following an extended illnesss. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids.

The son of Verne and Lenore (Hendricks) Hollesen, Harry Dean Hollesen was born on December 22, 1921, in Sioux Rapids. He was baptized in the Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids and he attended school in Sioux Rapids. Harry entered the United States Army on August 19, 1942, and advanced to Private First Class. He fought in the 1st Infantry Division in WWII and served in the Battle of the Bulge. He also toured in Sicily, Africa, France, Germany, and England. He was honorably discharged on October 3, 1945, after being awarded seven Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.

On February 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Joyce Francis at the Presbyterian parsonage in Jackson, Minnesota. This union was blessed with two daughters, Cheryl and Jymme.

Harry was a service station attendant and a press operator. Hde then worked for Simonsins Iron Works for 20 years and Nelson Products for 29 years. Harry and Joyce also worked for the First State Bank for 45 years as janitors.

Harry was a member of the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. He belonged to the American Legion Post #394 in Sioux Rapids for 56 years and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 5141 in Sioux Rapids. He enjoyed woodworking and loved to go fishing and camping. Harry also enjoyed going downtown to meet his buddies for coffee. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Harry is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Sioux Rapids; his two daughters: Cheryl Wilson and her husband, Ed, of Harbor City, California, and Jymme Risvold and her husband, Paul, of Linn Grove; four grandchildren: Darla Chambers, Barry Bell, Travis Risvold and Trista Risvold; five great-grandchildren: Ian, Kaleigh, Zoe and Phoebe Chambers and Emily Bell; and other loving relatives and friends.

Preceding Harry in death were his parents, Verne and Lenore Hollesen; two brothers, and one sister.
