Darline Swanson, age 77, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died September 19, 2010, at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.
Darline Marie Swanson was born on March 12, 1933, in Alta, Iowa, the daughter of George F. and Marie S. (Jensen) Carlson. She was baptized on July 23, 1933, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, and confirmed on July 8, 1947.
Growing up, Darline attended grade school and graduated from Alta High School in 1951.
On August 12, 1951, Darline was united in marriage to John Richard Swanson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. Together they were blessed with four children: Deborah, Sandra, Cheryl and Jon.
Darline was a dedicated wife to the love her life, “Johnny,” attending nearly every football game he coached as his greatest cheerleader and support. She worked as executive secretary at Methodist Manor for 19 years. She touched the lives of many residents and developed lasting friendships with the residents that resided there along with all she knew in her gentle way. She was a member of Christian Women’s Club, Via de Cristo, Stephen’s Ministry, Women of the ELCA, Sew & Do and the BVRMC Hospital Auxiliary. Darline taught Sunday School and participated in her small group Bible study, which she was a part of for years, which was very important to her. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and cooking.
Darline treasured her family more than anything, and she and John spent their time visiting their children and attending the many sporting and school events of their grandchildren over the years. She will be dearly missed by all of the lives she so preciously touched. `
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, John Swanson, of Storm Lake; children Deborah L (Bruce) Richardson of Storm Lake, Iowa; Sandra J. (Paul) Benson of West Bend, Wisconsin; Cheryl M. (Dave) Simon of Des Moines, Iowa, Jon D. Swanson of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren Jeremy (Andrea) Richardson; Jennifer (Paul) Magnussen; Matthew (Megan) Richardson; Katie (Joshua) Lindgren; Jessica, CJ and Andrea Benson; AJ, Josh and Anna Simon; Kylie Swanson; great-grandchildren Rylan Richardson, Alli and Tyler Magnussen, Luke and Cole Richardson and Colton and Levi Lindgren, her brother, Wilbur (Mary) Carlson, of Branson, Missouri, extended family and many friends.
Darline was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marie Carlson, and her brother, Kenneth Carlson.
Visitation: 4-7:00 p.m. September 22, 2010, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. September 23, 2010, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
