Dennis J. Weiland, age 58, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died August 16, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Dennis John Weiland, the son of Frank and Lola (Brummer) Weiland, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on June 24, 1952. He lived his youth and received his education in Linn Grove, graduating from the Linn Grove High School in 1971.

On December 10, 1977, Denny was united in marriage to Patty Hallengren in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Denny’s lifetime has been spent in the Linn Grove and Sioux Rapids areas. He has been employed in the construction business, at Sara Lee in Storm Lake, a chicken farm in Sac City, and his last employment was with Fleming (M & JR Hakes) Foods in Laurens.

In 2002, Denny had a lung transplant. Denny loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and gardening. He also refinished all types of furniture and trunks. He held a special place in his heart for his dogs and cats.

Denny’s life and memory are cherished by his wife, Patty, of Sioux Rapids, IA; his children: Tracy Fox of Mercersburg, PA; Matthew Weiland of Sioux Rapids, IA; Liz and Nick Hesselman of Storm Lake, IA; his grandchildren: Sheya Jo Treglia; Cody Allen Fox; Alexander, Caitlyn, Allyson, and Emma Hesselman; his great grandson, Justin Treglia; his mother, Lola (Weiland) Brock of Sioux Rapids, IA; his brothers: Allen (Debbie) Weiland of Aurelia, IA, and Randy and his fiancee, Robbie Whittenberg of Linn Grove, IA; his sisters: Connie (Bill) Wetherell of Sloan, IA; Julie (Ron) Anderson of Aurelia, IA; his aunt, Lois (Arnie) Treinen; five sister-in-laws and their families; special friend, Ronald (Joyce) Nehring; other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Weiland; a great grandson, Tyler; his step-father, Donald Brock; a sister-in-law, Merry Haraldson; and a niece, Tammy Geist.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
