John Stanley Covey, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died July 26, 2010, at his home in Storm Lake.

John “Stan” Covey, son of John and Roma (Robson) Covey, was born May 14, 1930, in Early, Iowa. Growing up, Stan attended grade school and later graduated from Early High School in 1947.

On June 4 1950, Stan was united in marriage to Corinne (Hanke) Covey in Early, Iowa. Together they were blessed with three sons: Randall, David and James.

Stan entered the United States Army where he served his country from 1948-1949.

Stan’s passion was being a part of a small lumber business, which grew into a nationwide company. His career culminated when he attained the CEO position of the business.

Stan was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge and was a gentleman farmer. He treasured motor camping, hunting, fishing and golfing. John enjoyed pleasure driving and being able to travel both domestically and internationally.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Randall (Judy) Covey of Ames, Iowa; David (Janet) Covey of Lincoln, Nebraska; James (Mary) Covey of Early, Iowa; three grandchildren: Jerad (Jackie) Covey of Omaha, Nebraska; Megan Covey of Omaha, Nebraska; Amber Covey of Laramie, Wyoming; two step grandsons, Donald and Dennis Snyder; five step great grandchildren: Shelby, Sydney, Randy, Travis and Barbara Ann Snyder; sisters: Doris Sorrels of Mt. Sterling, Illinois; Clara Mae Kempfert of St. Cloud, Florida; Jean (Rueben) Hokanson of Grinnell, Iowa; Janet (Leroy) Beers of Sequim, Washington; brother-in-law, Ed Schramm of Early, Iowa; extended family and many friends.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Corinne; his parents, John and Roma Covey; and sister, Alma Lee Schramm.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. July 31, 2010, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Interment: July 31, 2010, at Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa
