Irene B. McLaughlin, age 88, of Lakeside, Iowa, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Irene Barbara Stecki was born on December 5, 1921, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Michael and Lucy (Sledzak) Stecki. She attended school in Omaha and was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Francis Church in Omaha. She became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she served on the Ladies Guild.
On March 8, 1944, Irene was united in marriage to Robert L. McLaughlin at St. Francis Church in Omaha. They were blessed with four children: Linda, Kathy, Rose and Pat.
After raising their children, Irene joined her husband in their business venture, Commercial Services, Inc., a trucking company in Storm Lake, Iowa. Irene remained active, working with her daughter, Pat and son-in-law, Keith, until her retirement in 1992.
Irene was an active member of the AMVETS Auxiliary where she served as president. With her husband Robert L., she traveled and visited family and friends across the country. She belonged to many card clubs over the years. She especially enjoyed her lakefront home, which became the gathering place for her growing family and many friends. Her love of life, sense of humor, and genuine kindness will never be forgotten. We were truly blessed to have her in our lives.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Linda Lindsey of Cody, Wyoming; Kathy (Bari) Strader of Forsyth, Missouri; Rose (David) Denman of Cincinnati, Ohio; Pat (Keith) Bjorkgren of Lakeside, Iowa; twelve grandchildren: Jennifer (Keith) Edgell, Kelly (Ben) Henneberry, Amy (Troy) Nibert, Julie (Jason) Keyman, Jill Martinez, Todd Strader, Chris (Sarah) Denman, Melissa Denman, Kyle Denman, Nate (Heidi) Bjorkgren, Brian Bjorkgren and Beth Bjorkgren; 18 great grandchildren; two sisters: Sally Bohling and Bernie (David) McGill, both of Omaha; extended family and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert L.; five brothers; three sisters; and her son-in-law, Richard Lindsey.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:30 a.m. August 04, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
