Marjorie L. Baker, age 83, of Marshalltown and formerly of Sioux Rapids, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Grandview Heights Rehab and Health Care Center in Marshalltown.

Marjorie Lois “Marge” Hanson, the daughter of Lewis and Martha (Davidinson) Hanson, was born in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota on July 3, 1926. She attended Sioux Rapids High School through the 11th grade.

On November 19, 1947, Marge was united in marriage to Herman Baker in Vermillion, South Dakota. They were blessed with a daughter, Lynda. They made their homes in Colorado, later moving to Terril, Iowa, and Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Marge moved to Marshalltown in 1991.

Over the years, Marge worked as a waitress and as a custodian at Terril with Herman. She earned her CNA certification and worked as a CNA in Sioux Rapids, retiring in 1991.

Her many hobbies included fishing, gardening, cooking, baking pies, crocheting and being outdoors. Marge cherished her family and was especially comforted by the move to Marshalltown to be closer to her daughter.

Those left to cherish Marge’s memory are her daughter, Lynda Hauser of Marshalltown; three grandchildren: Lucas (Saren) Hauser of Melbourne, Iowa; Lance Hauser of Marshalltown; Lacey Hauser of Marshalltown; one great grandchild, Lane Hauser of Melbourne; five siblings: Gerald (Iris) Hanson of Spencer, Iowa; Donna (Bill) Frederick of Webb, Iowa; Betty Anderson of Hubbard, Iowa; Marcia (Clark) Jensen of Ankeny, Iowa; Miriam Ingram of Columbus, Nebraska; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman on July 21, 1984; son-in-law, Larry Hauser; brothers-in-law: Myron Anderson and Ike Ingram; and a daughter in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
