Edward D. Christle, age 70 of Ogden, formerly of Alta, died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Israel Family Hospice Center in Ames after a 10 month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Edward Dale Christle was born Jan. 28, 1940, in Litchfield, Minn., the son of Daniel and Mildred (Arens) Christle. He received his education at Eden Valley High School. On March 25, 1957, he enlisted in the United States Army. On March 25, 1961, he was honorably discharged.
On May 4, 1959, Ed was united in marriage to Ruth Bradbury in Seattle, Wash. To this union, three children were born. The couple later divorced.
Ed was a truck driver in Seattle and later worked his way into a dispatching position for Time DC. In 1975, he moved to Alta and began working for Schmidt Furniture in Cherokee. He laid floor covering for the furniture store until he opened Alta Floor Covering in Alta. On June 5, 1993, Ed was reunited in marriage to Ruth at Hanover Lutheran Church in Hanover. The couple resided in Alta until his failing health forced the couple to move to Ogden.
Ed served on the board of directors and was a deacon at the Faith Bible Christian Outreach Center. He thoroughly enjoyed ministering to people in need. His family will remember him as a man who could fix just about anything, and he had a tool for every job. Ed enjoyed the many friends he met and ministered through Alcoholics Anonymous. He died just before his 21st anniversary of sobriety. His hobbies included camping and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Ruth; two sons, Kevin (Donna) Christle of Marysville, Wash., Brian (Kristi) Christle of Ogden; one daughter, Susan (Bob) Kenny of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Miranda Christle of Marysville, Wash., Jennifer Christle of Seattle, Wash., Adam Kenny of New Hampton, Danielle Kenny of Cedar Falls, Brianna and Kolton Christle of Ogden, and Cayla Martin of W. Des Moines; two sisters, Rose (Ray) Sackett of Schaller, Linda Christle of Sedalia, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Bud Rangeloff of Litchfield, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Ethelyn (Dick) Kendrick of Arlington, Wash.; one daughter-in-law, Janet Christle of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Rebecca (Tim) Collins of Marysville, Wash.; five step-grandchildren Ashly, Eric, Domanique, Tre and Nakiesha all of Marysville, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John; a sister, Corrine Rangeloff; a brother, Daniel; and an infant sister, Joyce.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the Faith Bible Christian Outreach Center, Storm Lake. Pastor Loren Carlson will officiate.
A private inurnment will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the church.
