Joseph Leo Kelley, age 78, of Lakeside, Iowa, died June 10, 2010, at the Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane, Washington, following a visit with his son and family.
Joseph, son of George and Helen (Tierney) Kelley was born February 2, 1932, in Early, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. He graduated from Sacred Heart School with the class of 1951.
Following graduation, Joe served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1955.
On December 28, 1959, Joseph was united in marriage to Shirley King. Together they were blessed with four children: Mark of Osage Beach, Missouri; David of Goliad, Texas; Douglas of Wenatchee, Washington, and Angela of Storm Lake.
Joe was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He worked for 30 years for Kingan and Company and later, Hygrade. When Hygrade closed, Joe became the Manager of the Knights of Columbus Hall in Storm Lake. Joe and his wife, Shirley, also had a fun and rewarding Shaklee career out of their home for 33 years which allowed them to travel extensively.
Joe was an active volunteer his entire life from Cub Scout Leader to a Little League Coach for all his children. Joe was also a volunteer as a Eucharistic minister and many other church and St. Mary school events. In his later years, he put many hours at the S.O.S. Thrift Store in Storm Lake which benefits St. Mary’s School.
Joe enjoyed the outdoors, especially the camping trips, the Twins baseball games, and all the sporting events his children and grandchildren were involved with.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley Kelley of Lakeside; his children: Mark Kelley of Osage Beach, Missouri; David Kelley (Shelly) of Goliad, Texas; Douglas Kelley (Lyn) of Wenatchee, Washington; and Angela Siefken (Greg) of Storm Lake, Iowa. He also is survived by nine grandchildren: Meghan and Collyn Kelley of Goliad, Texas; Logan, Abby, and Caitlyn White of Storm Lake; Ashley Kelley of Osage Beach, Missouri; Sean, Andrew, and Ryan Kelley of Wenatchee, Washington. Joe has two brothers: Peter (Mary Sue) Kelley of Jacksonville, Florida, and Bill (Kay) Kelley of Kansas City, Kansas.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Kelley and one sister, Joanne Gates.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. June 16, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m. June 16, 2010, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
