Barbara E. Schug, age 54, of Kearney, Neb., died Friday, April 12, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained in a one-car accident south of Crawford, NE.
Barb Weatherly was born May 16, 1947, in Storm Lake, to William C. and Dorothy V. (Jacques) Weatherly. She graduated from high school in Storm Lake, and on June 6, 1965, she married Steven L. Schug.
Steve and Barb moved to Kearney in 1976, and they took over the Culligan Water Conditioning business that Barb continued to operate until her death. Barb also was the original owner of the Bubble Factory that she ran until selling it a couple of years ago.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Vice-chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Envoys, Buffalo County Co-chairperson for the Johanns' campaign and past member of the Kearney Juniors Women. She was also a member of the Birthday Club, Bridge Club, Welcome Wagon, Kearney High Booster Club, Handmad'ns and Weeping Widows.
She will be loved and missed by many, including her children: Capt. Todd Schug, wife Liza and granddaughters Emily and Magi of Dover, Del.; Cynthia Bahler, husband Wayne and grandsons Trey and Hayden of Lamar, Neb.; Jennifer Leigh Miller, husband Ken and granddaughter Alie of Jefferson City, Mo. Also her mother, Dorothy Krohn and husband George of Storm Lake; sister Majorie Strum and husband Dennis of New Hampton; brother Timothy Weatherly and wife Barbara of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two half-sisters, a sister and brother in-law, many special nieces and nephews and a lot of great friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Steven on February 19, 1992, and her father, William, in 1973.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 18, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the reverend Dr. Ron Rowmmich officiating. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Memorials are planned to the Steven and Barbara Schug Kearney High School Memorial Scholarship Fund or the First United Methodist Church. Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
