William Witte - Dec. 5, 1928 - Mar. 2, 2002

William "Bill" Franklin Witte, age 73, of Storm Lake, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Bill was born December 5, 1928, in Larrabee, the son of Clarence and Gladys (McManus) Witte. He attended Webster School and Lincoln Junior High School in Cherokee. On April 3, 1965, he was united in marriage to Delores Hartje in Cherokee.

In 1952 Bill entered the U.S. Armed Forces serving his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Bill worked for over thirty years at Kingans Hy-Grade and farmed the family farm as well. He currently was employed by PSA Genetics, formerly Mellow Dent, in rural Alta.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Storm Lake, where he served on the Cemetery Board and assisted with janitor work. Bill proudly made the stable in the ceramic Nativity displayed at Zion Lutheran Church during the Christmas holidays.

Bill was formerly active in the V.F.W. and Amvets. His many hobbies included playing pool and cards, fishing, gardening and hunting. He also cherished his time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Dee, Storm Lake; four children, Michael Witte and wife Pat, Georgia, Larry Witte and wife Karen, Ringsted, Elaine Witte, Storm Lake, and Gary Witte and friend Londa Selk, Albert City; grandchildren Jeremy, Joshua, Ciara Witte and Dallas Maday, Ringsted, Mrs. Joseph (Kim) Holifield and Jason Sorrels, Georgia; and a great granddaughter Jayde Holifield, Georgia. Also surviving is a sister Juanita Tentinger and husband Kenneth, Oregon; nephew Terry Tentinger and wife Joan, Boise, Idaho; and niece Carmen Cardwell and husband Kenny, Oregon.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Roger Tentinger.

Funeral services for William Witte were held Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Zion Lutheran Church, Storm Lake, with Reverend Tom Egger officiating.

Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by Amvets Post #66 of Storm Lake. Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Homes, Storm Lake, were in charge of arrangements.

Family car drivers were: Rick Peterson, Steve Lullman, Glen Armstrong, Dale Wetherell, Bill Steffens, Don Meyer, Bob Burnside, Rodger Steffens, and Myron Joens.
