LaVonne M. Sanders, age 84, of Cherokee, formerly of Newell, died March 18, 2002, at the Cherokee Villa Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

LaVonne Martha Larson was born August 12, 1917, in Newell, the daughter of Lars W. and Millie (Lemp) Larson. She graduated from Newell High School.

LaVonne spent almost her entire life in Newell except for two years when she lived in Van Meter. In 2000 she moved to Cherokee to be near family in August of 2001 entered Cherokee Villa Nursing Home.

On January 6, 1938, she was united in marriage to Glen W. Sanders, to this union three daughters and a son were born.

She was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ where she participated in Ladies Aid, the choir and served as secretary-treasurer of the church board. LaVonne had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed making crafts, sewing, baking and working crossword puzzles.

Her family includes her husband Glen, of Cherokee; three daughters, Synthia Hanson and her husband, Lawrence of Cherokee, Carol Cox and her husband Bill of Sutherland, and Julie Bangert and her husband, Mike of Blue Eye, Missouri; and a son Dale Sanders and his wife, Cathy of Ankeny.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jay Koth and his wife, Carol, Ben Sanders and his wife, Allison, Gary Sanders, Chase Cox, Jeremy Bangert and Tammy Anderson; four great grandchildren, Joey and Jack Anderson and Kayla and Peyton Sanders along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Her parents, two sisters, Muriel and Fern, a brother, Marvin Larson and a great granddaughter, Allison Elisabeth Seehusen, preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held March 22nd, 2002, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell with the Reverend John Pinkerman officiating. Burial was in the Newell Cemetery.
