Elaine L. Jessen, 72, of Sioux Rapids, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer.

Elaine Lois Olson was born December 16, 1929, the daughter the Gehardt and Kathryne (Schulntz) Olson at Rembrandt. She attended school in Sioux Rapids and graduated from the Linn Grove High School in 1947. On March 25, 1948, Elaine married Darrell Dean Jessen in Rembrandt. She owned and operated Jessen's Past Time in Linn Grove for 24 years, retiring in 1993.

Elaine was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove and the Ladies Aid Society. She was also made an Honorary Member of the Linn Grove Fire Department. She enjoyed her grandchildren and wind chimes.

Preceding Elaine in death were her parents, one brother, Arnold, and three brothers-in-law, Ward Dean, Melvin Wiebe, and Robert Campbell.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Anderson and her special friend Gus Reyes of Storm Lake; two sons, Steven and his wife Amy Jessen, and Stewart and his wife Becky Jessen all of Linn Grove; six grandchildren, Chad and Mark Anderson, Jeremiah Jessen, Joshua and his wife Lisa Jessen, Stephanie Jessen, and Shane and his wife Lori Jessen; and five great-grandchildren, Faith, Chase, Audrey, Casey, and Rhett Jessen. Also surviving are seven sisters, Miriam Wiebe of Linn Grove, Janet Campbell of Spencer, LouAnn and her husband Nyle Burns of Knoxville, Vivian and her husband Damon Foxhoven of Wapakoneta, OH., Linda and her husband Joe Rydstrom of Marathon, Retha and her husband Roger Harrington of Ida Grove, and Ruth and her husband John Thompson of Sioux Rapids; and three brothers, Richard and his wife Linda Olson of Laurens, Lloyd and his wife Alice Olson of Mason City, and Robert and his wife Jan Olson of Sioux City, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Elaine Jessen were held Monday, March 25, 2002, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove with Pastor Sanford Sill officiating. Burial was in the Barnes Township Cemetery, Linn Grove.

The Sliefert Redig Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids was in charge of arrangements.
