Ernest V. "Ernie" Carlson, 77, of Webb, formerly of Marathon, passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Monday, February 4, 2002.

Ernest Vernon Carlson, the son of Eric and Esther Carlson, was born October 26, 1924, in Marathon. Ernie was raised in the Marathon area where he attended and graduated from high school.

Ernie married Phyllis Berg on September 20, 1947, in the Little Brown Church. To this union three children were born: Carolyn, Diann and Barb.

Following his wife's death, Ernie married Dolores Christensen on August 2, 1958. To this marriage Dolores brought three children: Nancy, Betty and Roger. In 1959, they moved to Webb where they made their home. In 1966, a daughter, Patti, was born to this union.

Ernie was a self-employed farmer, and after retirement, worked part-time at the Clay County Fair.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Phyllis; wife, Dolores; one son, Roger Christensen; and one brother, Donald.

Ernie is survived by his daughters and their husbands: Carolyn and Allen Forsberg, Diann and James Peterson, Barb and Rich Hogrefe, all of Albert City; Patti and Jeff Mohr of Webb; Nancy and Mike Johannes of Columbus, NE; and Betty and Ron Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD. Also 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Eldon Carlson of Spirit Lake; one sister, Vivian Smith of Dickens; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Ernie Carlson will be Thursday, February 7, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church, Spencer, with Reverend Tom Dettmer officiating.

Burial will be in the North Lawn Memorial Park, Spencer. The Warner Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
