Mary Jane Cooper, age 81, of Storm Lake died Sunday, February 3, 2002, at the Buena Vista Manor Care Center in Storm Lake following a lengthy illness.
Mary Jane Townsend was born October 25, 1920, in Omaha, Nebraska, a daughter of Warren W. and Beulah (Campbell) Townsend. She graduated from Lake City High School and then earned a degree in nursing from the University of Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Richard W. Cooper on May 14, 1942, at Iowa City, Iowa. The couple lived in Chicago and Fort Dodge before moving to Storm Lake in 1948. For many years, they enjoyed spending time in both Storm Lake and Okoboji. Judge Cooper died on August 21, 1990.
Mary Jane worked as a registered nurse, was a dedicated mother and homemaker and was an active community volunteer. She was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Melody Club, 37 Club, Questers, P.E.O. Chapter EP and the University of Iowa Alumni Association.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Robinson, and her husband, Dennis, Storm Lake; two granddaughters, Jennifer Nocera and her husband, David, Apple Valley, CA, and Wendy McCullough and her husband, Brandon, Coralville; a son John Cooper, Texarkana, AR; and a sister, Joan Mitchell and her husband, Al, of Frankfort, KY.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 6th, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Private family burial services will be held at the Storm Lake Cemetery prior to the memorial service.
Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. where the family will be present to greet friends. A memorial fund has been established.
