Jean Christenson, Storm Lake, formerly of Alta, passed away on February 13, 2002, in Storm Lake at the age of 75 years, 7 months, and 8 days following a brief terminal illness.
Jean Ida Christenson was born on July 5, 1926, the oldest daughter of Amandus and Ellen (Holmes) Johnson in Alta. She attended Highview Consolidated School for ten years and then graduated from Alta Community School with the class of 1944. She also attended NBT Business School in Sioux City and was employed as a secretary.
On July 2, 1949, Jean married Lael Christenson, and they lived on the Christenson farm north of Alta for over 40 years. She spent the winters in Rio Grand Valley of Texas for 13 years.
Following the death of her husband in 1985, she continued to run the family farm until 1990. She then moved to Storm Lake and volunteered at the Senior Center.
A lifelong member, Jean was both baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Alta. She enjoyed watching sports, playing cards, golfing, bowling, doing crafts, traveling, and working in and admiring her flower garden. She especially enjoyed having family around and following her grandchildren's accomplishments.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lael; one brother, Ray Johnson; two brothers-in-law, Carroll Christenson and Frank Dobson; and her daughter, Beverly Jensen, who passed away suddenly in April 2001.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Debbie, and her husband, Tim Frederiksen, of Storm Lake; her grandchildren, Lindsey Kay and Ross Thomas Frederiksen; one sister, Lois Dobson of Alta; two nieces, Susan Rynders of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Judy Rutherford of Mobile, Alabama; and extended family members and friends.
Funeral services for Jean Ida Christenson will be held Saturday, February 16, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alta with Pastor David Arulnathan and Reverend Duane Queen officiating.
Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Alta. The Barker Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of arrangements.
