Roy Berg departed this life Thursday, February 14, 2002, at the Fonda Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 96 years and 25 days.

Roy Floyd Berg, son of August and Hilda (Anderson) Berg was born January 20, 1906, at Albert City. Roy was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He attended schools in the Albert City area.

He worked on his father's farm until he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in April 1942 serving as a medical corpsman stationed at Everett, Washington. He received an honorable discharge in October, 1945, as a Corporal. Roy was a member of the Varina American Legion post 588 since 1948. He was proud to receive his 50 year membership award.

Returning home he worked as a farm hand in the Varina, Newell areas, spending many years with the Ine Krogstad family.

Upon retiring, he moved into Fonda where he enjoyed fishing, collecting farm toys and cars and going to auctions. In his spare time, he liked riding through the countryside looking at the crops and harvest. He rode his bicycle until he was 92 years old. Each year, he looked forward to celebrating his birthday with family and friends at the Ken-A-Bob or Fonda Cafe. Also the fellowship and dinners at the Fonda Senior Center every day.

Roy was a thoughtful, caring person who was always willing to help his friends and relatives.

Because of his failing health, he made his home at the Care Center for the past three years.

Preceding Roy in death were his parents and brothers Carl, Andrew, Bert, Leslie and Donald; and sisters, Astrid Armstrong, Inga Nelson, Della Meyer and Virginia Johnson.

Left with fond memories are his sister-in-law, Vivian Berg of Boone, nieces and nephews, and the Krogstad families.

Funeral Services for Roy Floyd Berg, 96, of Fonda, formerly of Albert City, were held Saturday, February 16, 2002, at the Mahaney Funeral Home, Fonda, with Pastor Geneva R. Parsons officiating.

Interment was in the Fairfield Cemetery, Albert City. The Mahaney Funeral Home, Fonda, was in charge of arrangements.
