Marlyse N. Payne, age 75, of Alta, died Saturday, December 29, 2001, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake following a lengthy battle with the lung disease bronchiactesis.

Marlyse Noreen Storm was born July 22, 1926, in Sanborn, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Johnson) Storm. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Sanborn.

She attended rural school through the 8th grade and graduated from Archer High School in 1944. She then attended business school in Mankato, Minn. She worked for several years in the office of Green Giant Company in LeSueur and then for several years as a secretary for the Sheldon Production Credit Association.

On January 29, 1961, she was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Payne at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to Primghar where Marlyse worked as a Deputy O'Brien County Auditor. In 1971 the couple moved to Storm Lake and purchased the Montgomery Ward Catalog Agency Store. After selling the agency in 1979, Marlyse worked as a teller at the Security Trust & Savings Bank Drive-In in Storm Lake. She retired in 1992.

Marlyse was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church where she participated in the Elizabeth Circle and the Sew & Do Club. She and Kenneth were long time members of the SERPACI antique car club. She enjoyed crocheting and reading and especially loved having family around and watching her grandchildren's activities.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, Alta; two sons and their wives, Gregory and Janet, Lakeland, Fla., and Anthony and Amy, North Sioux City, S.D.; three grandchildren, Adam Christopher Payne, Madisen Erin Payne and Sydney Rae Payne; five step-grandchildren: Michael Macias, Danny Macias, Jon Macias, Lori Evans and Dave Macias; a sister, Edna Clark, Sheldon; a brother, Ronald Storm, and his wife, Izola, of Adel; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, a brother Leonard Storm, two sisters, Deloris Storm and Wilma Pekelder, two brothers-in-law, Charles Clark Jr. and George Pekelder and by a niece, Sharon Clark.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, January 3, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with Reverends Connie Spitzack and Mark Youngquist officiating.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

A general memorial fund has been established.
