Marian L. Hoffman, 90, of Storm Lake, died in her sleep on Sunday, December 23, 2001, at the home of her grandson in St. Paul, Minn. She had celebrated her 90th birthday with her family the previous week.

Marian Louise Hill was born December 16, 1911, the daughter of Rodney and Grace (Symington) Hill at Monroe, Neb.

She attended school in Parker, S.D., for eight years and then for four years in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School. She then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake where she received her bachelor of arts degree in 1933.

On September 30, 1933, Marian married Russell C. Hoffman at her parents home at 304 Geneseo Street.

She worked as a reporter for the Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune and as an owner-operator of the Hoffman Flower Shop, retiring on August 5, 1972. Following the death of her husband she assisted in directing tours for the Storm Lake area Arts Council for nine years. Marian was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder, Chairman of the Worship Commission, and Chairman of the Special Events Committee. She enjoyed reading, travel, and playing Bridge.

Preceding Marian in death were her parents, and her husband Russell on August 28, 1979.

Survivors include her two sons, Rodney and his wife Joan Hoffman of White Bear Lake, Minn., and R. James and his wife Karen Hoffman of Mound, Minn.; four grandchildren, Dr. James and wife Nica Hoffman, Julie and Husband Andy Petersen, Christopher and wife Eileen Hoffman, and Benjamin and wife Tracey Hoffman. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Kit Hoffman, Brenna and Tressa Hoffman, Ellen and Laura Petersen, and Oliver Hoffman; and one sister, Arlene and her husband Gale Johnson of Fort Collins, Colo.

Memorial services for Marian Hoffman will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2002, at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake with the Reverend Duane Queen officiating. Interment will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church. The Sliefert Redig Funeral of Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements.
