Betty Whitney, age 81, of Storm Lake, died Thursday, January 3, 2002, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Elizabeth Ann Whitney was born March 13, 1920, in Storm Lake, the daughter of Joseph "Joe" and Hazel (Taggart) Whitney. She graduated from the Storm Lake High School in 1938.

Betty was a life-long member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon. In her earlier years she was a member of Rainbow Girls and the Girl Scouts.

She is survived by her nieces: Marsha K. Whitney and Valerie V. Pitts, both of Columbus, Georgia; two great nephews: Wilson M. Camp, III, and Whitney Southwell Camp, both of Columbus, Georgia.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Joe and a nephew Joe, Jr.

A memorial fund has been established in memory of Betty for Lakeside Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
