George Junior Bruns - Oct. 27, 1927 - May 25, 2010
Tuesday, June 1, 2010

George Junior Bruns, age 82, of Alta, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at his residence.

On May 25, 2010, the Lord said, "It is time," and he wrapped his loving arms more tightly around George Junior Bruns and took him to his heavenly home to begin his eternal life.

Junior was born on Oct. 27, 1927, on a farm near Galva, to George H. and Sylvia (Kretzmeier) Bruns. Also welcoming Junior home were his three older brothers Leslie, Delmer and Orin. He would later become the older brother to Waldo. At the age of 1 ½, Junior moved with his family to a farm north of Alta. Growing up there, he attended Fairview Consolidated School, graduating in May of 1945. On June 9, 1946, Junior was baptized into the Christian faith at the First Methodist Church in Alta.

In 1947, Junior met Rozella Jean Dyslin of Aurelia. On Feb. 14, 1948, they became engaged and were married June 5, 1949, at the Alta United Methodist Church. To this union three children were born: Rodney, Marsha and Scott.

He was engaged in farming with his dad until 1950 at which time Junior and Rozella began their farming lives together. Junior loved the land he farmed but would always leave the field at 6:00 to enjoy supper and the evening with his family. For 14 years during the winter months, he was a welder at Caswell Mfg. Co. in Cherokee with an additional two years at Lundell Mfg. of Cherokee. After retiring from farming, Junior worked for many years with Professional Seed Associates.

A lifelong member of the Alta United Methodist Church, Junior served as layleader, trustee, administrative board member, a PPR committee member, choir member and MYF leader. Junior was also chairman of the Fairview Alumni Association and, until his death, an active board member of the BV County Farm Bureau.

Junior enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and could usually be prodded into playing 500, dice, penny game, or aggrevation. Another passion was puzzles, whether jigsaws or crosswords.

Those who knew Junior well will remember that he never said, "Goodbye." That was too final. His was always a simple "So long," meaning until next time. So at this time we'll just say, "So long, Junior."

Preceding Junior in death were his parents; his wife of 59 years, Rozella; brother Leslie; and sisters-in-law Lois and Hazel.

Left here to celebrate his memory are his children, Rodney and Sylvia Bruns of Minneapolis, Minn., Marsha and Tim Hills of Greenfield, Ind., and Scott Bruns of El Cajon, Calif.; grandchildren, Nicole and Brian Sletten, Chad and Jessica Hills, T.J. and Tina Hills, Melissa Ferrell, Angela and Mikey Forga, Jason Bruns, Ashley Bruns, Sunny Bruns and Stacy Bruns; great-grandchildren, Jaylen and Jordyn Hakes, Leo Sletten, Meghan and Mikayla Ferrell, Gavin and Nevada Forga, Avery, Taylor, Kylie and Brecken Hills, Tia Mathiew and Brendan Harris; brothers and sisters-in-law Delmer and Phyllis Bruns, Orin and Dorothy Bruns, and Waldo Bruns.

To Junior's family and friends, please don't linger in sadness but instead rejoice in your memories.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alta United Methodist Church of Alta.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. at the Alta United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery of Storm Lake. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
