Emogene R. Mangold, 79, Alta, died Saturday, December 15, 2001, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Emogene Wienands was born in Sioux City on October 13, 1922, the daughter of William John and Edna (Harris) Wienands. She attended and graduated from the Wessington High School in Wessington, South Dakota. She then attended Buena Vista College and received a two-year teaching degree after which she taught kindergarten in Manson.
On August 27, 1945, Emogene married Floyd Ilo Mangold in Bronson. She then attended Buena Vista College and earned a four-year teaching degree. She taught in Spencer and Wall Lake in the special education department, retiring in 1987. She also worked as a librarian in Linn Grove where she loved to read to the children during story hour. In addition, she enjoyed cooking, doing crossword puzzles, and playing the piano and organ. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove.
Preceding Emogine in death were her parents and an infant son, Robert.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd of Alta, three sons, George Mangold of Hill City, South Dakota, Brent and his wife Rhonda Mangold of Storm Lake, and William (Bill) Mangold of Storm Lake, six grandchildren, Kyra, Kevin, Justin, Cody, Alicia and Andrea Mangold, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mangold will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove with Pastor Sanford Sill and Pastor Douglas Corlew officiating. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. A memorial fund has been established.
