Olga Burhop, age 93, of Storm Lake, died Friday, December 14, 2001, at the Sunset Knoll Care Center in Aurelia after a lengthy illness.

Olga Anna Margaretha Voge was born June 18, 1908, in Cherokee County, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Schroeder) Voge. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Holstein, and attended country school in Ida County.

She was married to Walter Burhop on February 12, 1929, in the St. John Lutheran Church parsonage in Storm Lake by the Reverend H. P. Schmidt. This union was blessed with two sons, Richard and Donald.

The couple farmed at several places in the Hayes Township community south of Storm Lake until they retired to their new home in Storm Lake in 1955. Walter died in 1986.

Olga was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she served as secretary of St. John's Ladies Aid. Her greatest joy was being with her family and she loved playing bridge and gardening.

She leaves to mourn her passing, a son Donald and his wife, Virginia, Storm Lake; five grandchildren, Kimberli and Jim Polish, Madrid, Kirby and Jan Burhop, Schaller, Kelly Burhop, Argyle, WI, Peter and Samantha Burhop, Tacoma, WA, John and Molly Burhop, Portland, OR; five great grandchildren, Karl, Vincent and Alex Burhop, Schaller, and Zoe and Lillian Burhop, Portland, OR.

Also surviving is a brother, Walter Voge, Holsein; a sister, Lola Schmidt and her husband, Lawrence, Newell; a brother-in-law, Henry Kolbaba, Holstein; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Preceding Olga in death were her parents and her husband, her son Richard and three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services for Mrs. Burhop were held on Monday, December 17th, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Church, Storm Lake, with Pastor Douglas Haynes officiating. Burial was in the Storm Lake Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.
