A daughter of Damon Cline and Edith Stewart Cline Hollar, Claudia Cline Burger, 74, formerly of Alta, died November 24, 2001, at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Iredell, North Carolina.

Claudia attended Statesville city schools and earned her Nursing Degree from Crawford W. Long School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia.

Before retiring as a Registered Nurse, Claudia performed private duty nursing in Statesville, N.C., until her marriage to August F. Burger, Jr., on August 14, 1949. The couple made their homes in Ames where she worked as an R.N. at Mary Greely Hospital while her husband finished his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Upon his graduation they moved to Alta where she assisted in his veterinary medicine practice for 35 years.

Claudia was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta where she taught Confirmation classes and established the first choir in that church, directing it for many years. After retirement, she and her husband moved to the Lake Norman area in North Carolina where she rejoined her mother church, Holy Trinity Lutheran, in Statesville. She was a member of the Altar Guild and a Hospice volunteer until her health intervened.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, stepfather, Paul I. Hollar, sister Bonita L. Hollar Luttrell, and brother Paul F. Hollar.

Survivors include her brother, Lewis R. Cline of Statesville, N.C.; her husband of 52 years, Dr. A. F. Burger, Jr.; her children Candace Burger and Gloria Burger Keenan (Tim) in Iowa, Todd Burger (Terry) in Wyoming, and Grant Burger in California. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Shallee, Joel and Alyssa Keenan and Tyler, Tamara and Tara Burger.

Funeral services were held for Claudia Cline Burger, 74, November 26, 2001, at Holy Trinity Lutheran, N.C. Interment was at Iredell Memorial Gardens following the service.

Contributions in lieu of flowers were made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund or Hospice of Iredell County. Nicholson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
