Randall S. Nordlund - May 10, 1955 - May 14, 2010

Randall S. Nordlund, age 55, of Davenport, Iowa, and formerly of Albert City, Iowa, died Friday, May 14, 2010, at his home in Davenport.

Randall Sig Nordlund, the son of Roland and Dorothy (Johnson) Nordlund, was born in Laurens, Iowa, on May 10, 1955. Randy lived his youth in Albert City and was a 1973 graduate of the Albert City-Truesdale High School. While in high school, he participated in football and wrestling. Randy continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa where he was a member of their wrestling team.

On August 10, 1986, Randy was united in marriage to Julie Ann Watts at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they were blessed with two daughters, Nicholle and Natalie. Randy and Julie later divorced.

Randy’s passion in life was his dedication to hog farming. He began working on a hog farm in Rockwell, Iowa, for several years, and then from 1990-1999, he worked for Braun Sales which was a hog and grain farm in Latimer, Iowa. He continued his career with Iowa Select from 1999-2001 and Heartland Pork from 2001-2002. Randy was employed with Kiefer Built in Kanawha, Iowa, from 2002-2006. His most recent employment was with SYNICO Staffing. For the past two years, Randy’s health was compromised by his battle with brain cancer.

Randy took great pride in the restoration of a Classic Olds Cutlass which he showed around the Mason City area and southern Minnesota and for which he received many trophies.

Randy’s life will always be remembered by his family which include his two daughters, Nicholle Nordlund of Waterloo, Iowa, and Natalie Nordlund of Latimer, Iowa; his father, Roland Nordlund of Albert City, Iowa; his brother, James (Shari) Nordlund of Humboldt, Iowa; his sisters: Diane (Mike) Ahlers of Indianola, Iowa; Shari Hawk of Ankeny, Iowa; and Julie (Craig) Gramenz of Ankeny, Iowa; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
