Wilfred "Dude" Launderville, age 76, of Lakeside, died Sunday, December 9, 2001, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center following a lengthy illness.

Wilfred was born October 3, 1925, in Vail, the son of Vincent and Marie (Rowan) Launderville. He graduated with the class of 1944 from St. Ann High School in Vail.

During World War II, he served in Europe in the United States Army Infantry.

He worked as a mechanic for the Alta Implement Company for many years and in his spare time enjoyed rebuilding classic antique tractors.

Dude was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church; he was a past governor of the Storm Lake Moose Lodge; and for the last eight years, he enjoyed being a "snowbird" in Apache Junction, Arizona.

His family includes, a sister Joan Reed, Storm Lake; two brothers, Lee and his wife, Maxine, Carroll, and Louis and his wife, Peggy, Rogers, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lyle; three sisters, Mary Helen, Jean and Anita; sisters-in-law, Mary Launderville and Jean Woehler and brothers-in-law, Ray Buckingham and Jim Reed.

A Funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake with the Reverend Robert Schimmer and Reverend Dale Launderville officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.
