Vernita Lillian Hetrick, 73, Alta, passed away on November 21, 2001, at the Buena Vista Manor at the age of 73 years, 11 months, and 13 days.
A daughter of Hugo and Linda (Kuhlmann) Lafrentz, she was born on December 8, 1927, in Ida Grove. She graduated from Alta High School in 1946.
On June 25, 1950, Vernita was united in marriage to Orie L. Hetrick, Jr., in Storm Lake. She had been the manager for McCord Manor for the past 18 years. She was a long time member of the Church of Christ and the VFW Auxiliary #6172 in Alta. Vernita also worked for the Buena Vista County Hospital as a nurse's aide.
Vernita battled cancer for several years, actually winning the battle being "cancer free."
Vernita was preceded in death by her husband, Orie, Jr., and her parents.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam Hetrick, of Alta, and Reta and her husband Jody Hocking, of Storm Lake; one son, Orie III and his wife Jeannine of Fonda; two sisters, Velma Banta, of Alta, and Ione Munz and her husband Carroll, of Paradise Valley, Az.; one grandson, Justin Hocking, of Storm Lake; five granddaughters, Crystal, of Wall Lake, Breanna, of Sac City, Ashley and Brittany, of Fonda, and Jaimie of Storm Lake; one great grandson, Tristan; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and a host of wonderful friends.
Funeral services for Vernita Lillian Hetrick were Monday, November 26, 2001, at the Church of Christ, Storm Lake, with Pastor Jack A. Barber Officiating.
Burial was in the Holstein Cemetery, Holstein. The Barker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
