Flora A. Thayer, 90, died Tuesday, November 20, 2001, at Kavanagh House, 900 - 56th Street, Des Moines. She had been a resident of Sunny View Care Center, 401 Ash Street in Ankeny for two years.

Flora Coston was born August 26, 1911, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of Minnie and Duff Coston. She married Les Thayer of Storm Lake on October 22, 1929, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They lived in Missouri and Clear Lake before moving to their farm at Storm Lake in 1941.

In 1973 they moved to Newell and then to Bradenton, Florida, in 1978. She moved to Ankeny in 1991 and resided in care centers since 1996.

Flora Thayer loved to dance and won many awards with a studio in Bradenton, Fl. She was well known within her circle of friends and relatives for her cooking and family dinners.

Survivors are her children, Les Thayer of Ankeny and Janet Laning of Clear Lake; her grandchildren: Ed Thayer, Atlanta, Ga.; Marcia Schmidt, Storm Lake; Kathie Speas, Atlanta, Ga.; Chris Petrie, Milwaukee, Wis.; Pam Baier, Des Moines; Paul Laning, Clear Lake; Tom Thayer, Brooklyn, NY.; a niece, Sister Reed Crawford, Hot Springs, Arkansas; and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Les Thayer; her sisters Lillian, Leitha, Faye and Carolyn; and a brother, Robert.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the First Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut Street, Ankeny, on Saturday, December 29, 2001. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
