Richard (Dick) Wallerstedt, 70, passed away on September 24, 2001, in Storm Lake at the age of 70 years.
He was born to the union of Russell E. and Ruby L. (Wellington) Wallerstedt on February 22, 1931, in Des Moines.
He attended grade school in Sac City and graduated from Sac High School. After high school he later obtained higher education with LaSalle Extension University majoring in accounting.
Richard was united in marriage to Mavis Anderson in 1955 and had three children, James, Bryan, and Kathleen. After Mavis' passing in May of 1967, he later married Betty A. Spooner in July, 1968, in Storm Lake. Together they had six children: James (Jay) Wallerstedt, Bryan (Butch) Wallerstedt, Kathleen Wallerstedt, step-children; Mary Dowdy, Judy Snedeker, and Joel Davis.
Richard and his family lived in Sac City for 25 years before moving to Storm Lake. He worked for Otto Culver in Sac city and Storm Lake for many years. In 1985 Richard and Betty moved to Colorado where they spent much of their time on long rides in the mountains, exploring, picnicking, and enjoying the beauty God presents us. Richard also had a passion for Cubs baseball, and as his two sons were growing up, he spent many years coaching Pee-Wee and Little League baseball in Sac City. He also enjoyed gardening, reading history, watching TV, and spending time with his grandchildren. Richard retired in January 1999.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Ruby; brother Gordon Niles; step-father Ernest Niles; and first wife, Mavis (Anderson) Wallerstedt.
Richard is survived by his wife Betty Wallerstedt of Storm Lake; children, James Wallerstedt of Sioux City, Bryan Wallerstedt and wife Paula of Sac City, Kathleen Wallerstedt of Sioux City; step-children Mary Dowdy and husband Howard of Aurelia, Judy Snedeker and husband Mike of Storm Lake, Joel Davis of Dacono, Colorado; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; brothers, Robert Wallerstedt of Sac City, James Wallerstedt of Illinois, Tom Wallerstedt of Storm Lake, Mark Wallerstedt of Florida; and a sister Karen Flink and husband Kenny of Ida Grove; along with other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Richard Wallerstedt were held September 29, 2001, at Sliefert Funeral Home, Storm Lake, with Reverend Ken Bell officiating.
