Marie Sweet, 76, of Clarinda, formerly of Creston, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at the Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, where she had resided.

Marie F. Sweet was born February 14, 1925, at Alta, to Nels Bengsten and Milie (Thor) Bengsten. In 1945, Marie was united in marriage to Edwin J. Sweet, who preceded her in death on November 28, 1999. Marie worked at the Storm Lake newspaper and at the 3 & 71 Truck Stop Cafe. Marie moved to Clarinda from Creston, in 1999 where she also resided at the Eiler House, which she enjoyed very much.

Preceding her death were her parents, husband; Edwin J. Sweet, sister; Virginia Patton and Maryon Nelson, and brother Wes Bengsten. Survivors include her son; Jay Sweet and wife Renae of Clarinda; daughter, Jan Bailus and husband David of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, and a sister, Joyce Peterson of Alta.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2001, at the Storm Lake Cemetery, Storm Lake, with Pastor Ken Bell officiating. A memorial will be established. The Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, is in charge of arrangements.
