Paul Howard Wenell, son of Carl David and Mabel (Johnson) Wenell was born June 28, 1921, on the family farm home near Albert City. He was united in marriage to Esther Christoffers March 22, 1947. To this union three sons and two daughters were born - John, Allan, Susan, Janice and Lynn.

Baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Paul was an active lifetime member, holding several offices and participating in many activities. Paul was also a great supporter of the Albert City Community and involved in a variety of organizations.

Paul attended Marshal Township School and graduated from Albert City Consolidated School in 1939. He attended Iowa State College for one year before entering military service where he served as a corporal in the Air Corps in the Mediterranean Theater in World War II.

He returned home and began farming in 1947. In 1989, Paul and Esther moved to their home in Albert City. He slowly worked out of active farming, though not losing interest or involvement. Paul helped out with farm work as long as his health allowed.

Paul enjoyed his work but took time to relax and enjoy his children and grandchildren. He was always willing to stop and visit and help neighbors and friends. Those who knew Paul knew he loved life and enjoyed humor and jokes.

Paul is survived by his wife Esther, five children, their spouses, thirteen grandchildren and great grandchildren - John and wife Jean, sons Kory and Kyle of Albert City, Allan and wife Donnajean of Laurens, sons David and wife Beth of Chicago, Ill. and Brian and wife Angie of Des Moines, and daughter Kartlyn and daughters April and Amy; Susan and husband Steve Trombetta, daughters Laura and Alayna of Chicago Park, Calif,; Janice and husband Gary Lee, sons Andrew and Dana of Cohosser, Calif.; Lynn and wife Jerolyn, sons Lewis, Reuben and Brice of Albert City.

Other survivors include two brothers, Virgil and wife Wanetta, Delbert and wife Karen; two sisters, Lavern Swanson and Lorraine Bloom and husband George, and two sisters-in-law, Geneva Wenell and Mary Wenell and many other relatives and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Mabel, brothers Emery and Arnold and brother-in-law, Dick Swanson.

Funeral Services for Paul Howard Wenell, 80, of Albert City, were October 14, 2001, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City with Pastor Steven Paul officiating. Interment was in the Fairfield Township Cemetery, Albert City. Arrangements by Sliefert Funeral Home.
