Darall E. Cox, age 75, of Storm Lake, died Sunday, October 14, 2001, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Center from complications of prostate cancer.
Darall Eugene Cox was born August 26, 1926, in Texas County, Missouri, the son of Raymond and Lydia (Wonnell) Cox.
Darall was married to Lois E. Howell on June 19, 1949, in Storm Lake. She died on December 13, 1993.
He grew up in the Ozarks of Missouri and left as a young man. He moved to Alta and worked as a meat cutter for Iver's Locker of Storm Lake and then worked as a USDA Meat Inspector for Hygrade. Following the closing of the Hygrade plant in Storm Lake he moved to Monmouth, Illinois, to work for USDA in the Wilson & Company plant. Darall retired in 1978 and in retirement enjoyed driving school buses.
Darall returned to Storm Lake in 1996 to make his home at Methodist Manor. His hobbies and interests included: hunting, fishing and card playing.
He is survived by three daughters, Marsha Ingram and her husband Mike, Storm Lake, Kathy Staggs and her husband James, Central City, Neb., and Teresa Peel and her husband, Jeff, Little York, Ill; a son Raymond and his wife, Michele, Rockford, Ill.; 8 grandchildren, Melanie and Steve Haakinson and their son, Ian, Omaha, Neb., Matt and Stephanie Ingram, Omaha, Neb., Chris Staggs, Central City, Neb., Doug Staggs, Central City, Neb., Kandis Cox, Rockford, Ill., and Tiffany, Jennifer and Justine Peel, Little York, Ill.
Also surviving are six brothers & sisters; Don and Charlotte Cox, Mountain View, Mo., Ron Cox and his wife, Betty, Cabool, Mo., Bill and Hazel Cox, Lonoke, Ariz., Midge Lippincott, Arthur, Peg Sievers and her husband, Don, Odebolt, Maxine Leech, Moab, Utah; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Preceding Darall in death were his parents; his wife Lois; and a sister Nola.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 19th, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake with the Reverend Kenneth Bell of Storm Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Morgan Township Cemetery in Schleswig.
Friends may call at the Fratzke Funeral Home after 2 p.m. on Thursday where the family will be present to greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.
