Louise Martha (Hogrefe) Pingel passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2001, at the Methodist Manor at the age of 93.

Louise was born February 17, 1908, to Henry and Caroline (Sievers) Hogrefe on a farm in Buena Vista County.

She was baptized by the Rev. Kruetz on March 8, 1908, and was confirmed by the Rev. Albrecht of Zion Lutheran Church on April 9, 1922.

Louise attended a one room country school for four years and then changed to Zion parochial school where she was confirmed at age 14. Later she helped her parents on the farm for a while before working as a nurse at the Swallum Hospital for about ten years. In 1938 she married Leo Pingel and lived on the Pingel family farm with him near Rembrandt until 1984 when they moved to Storm Lake and became members of Grace Lutheran Church. Louise was a member of Zion's Ladies Aid for many years before joining Grace Ladies Aid. She was a member of Zion's Ladies sewing group and made quilts at Grace for the "Lutheran World Relief." Her hobbies were crocheting, sewing and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leo, her parents, three brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by her two children Eldona and husband Gordon Hahm of Mequon, Wis., Ronald and wife Cindy of Spencer; five grandchildren, Eric Hahm and wife Carole of Lafayette, Ind., Mark Hahm of Denver, Colo., Julie of Green Bay, Wis., Britta Pingel and Abby Pingel, both of Spencer; great grandchildren are Katlin ad Aimee Hahm of Lafayette, Ind. Brothers and sisters-in-law are Waldo and Renata Pingel of Storm Lake, Helen Pingel of Storm Lake and Helen Hogrefe of Alta, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Louise were held on September 1, 2001, at Grace Lutheran Church, Pastor Steve Schulz officiating.

Interment was at Storm Lake Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were by Sliefert Funeral Home.
