George Long - Feb. 2, 1911 - Aug. 30, 2001

George passed away on August 30, 2001, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen at the age of 90.

George was born to the union of Albert and Caroline (Kiehl) Long on February 2, 1911, in Ayrshire. He received his education from Ayrshire Schools.

George was baptized and later confirmed on May 30, 1926, in the Lutheran Church in Ayrshire. He was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon.

George Long and Evelyn Essick were united in marriage on June 3, 1937, in Royal. To this union five children were born, Alice, Bob, Albert, Delores and Bill (Deceased).

George worked on farms, concrete plants and packing houses before retiring in 1971. He enjoyed coaching baseball, fishing and working in his garden. He coached little league baseball for thirty five years in Spencer and Marathon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Long, parents, son Bill Long, two sisters, Florence and Edna Mae.

He is survived by his children, Bob Long of Vermilion, S.D., Albert (Shorty) Long of Rapid City, S.D., Alice Glackin of Marcus, Delores Mead of Long Praire, Minn., eighteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for George Carl William Long were held on September 1, 2001, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Duane Olson officiating.

Interment was at Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. Funeral Arrangements were by the Sliefert Funeral Home.
