Forest Ball - Dec. 14, 1914 - Sept. 12, 2001

Forest Audrey Ball passed away on September 12, 2001, at the age of 86.

Forest Mitchell, daughter of Calvert James and Julia Caroline (Shaw) Mitchell was born on December 14, 1914, at Gillette Grove. She was baptized at Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church in Rembrandt on February 26, 1915. Forest confirmed that baptism at the Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 13, 1930. She was currently a member of the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. She received her younger education at the Cornell School and then graduated from Sioux Rapids High School in 1932.

Forest married Hardie J. Ball at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids on May 28, 1936. To this union six daughters, Barbara, Sibyl, Mary, Karleen, Marleen, Joan and two sons, Calvert and Hardy J., Jr., were born.

Forest was a homemaker and a cook at the Webb Consolidated School. She enjoyed reading, baking and playing cards. She especially enjoyed baking for all her children and grandchildren. Forest was a 50 year member of O.E.S. Buena Vista Chapter #309 of Sioux Rapids.

Forest retired in 1980, and several years ago, she entered the Sioux Care Center where she passed away.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardie J. Ball, Sr.; an infant daughter Joan Elizabeth; an infant grandson Anthony Ball; her parents; a brother, Calvert James Mitchell and a sister Crystal Grote.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Davis (Bob), of North Sioux City, S.D., Calvert Ball (Emmy Lou) of Knoxville, Sibyl Ball (Gary) of Sioux Rapids, Mary Mills (Larry) of Sioux Rapids, Hardie Ball, Jr., (Gloria) of Sioux Rapids, Karleen Koenig (Bill) of Ayrshire, and Marleen Norgaard (Dennis) of Dickens. Also two sisters, Karle Breidinger of Hartly, and Jean Ann Bussell of Port Angeles, Washington; sister-in-law, Marsaline Ball of Laurens; grandchildren Stephanie, Brenda, Sonja, Chad, Greg, Tracy, Brad, Jeff, Todd, Larry, Jr., Barry, Salena, Justin, Darcy, Danyelle, Tom, Michele, Bob, Leanne and Lonnie; 32 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Forest Audrey Ball were held on September 15, 2001, at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids where Pastor Emily Allen officiated. Interment was at Garfield Township Cemetery in Webb. Funeral arrangements were by Sliefert Funeral Home.
