Leonard Morey Wilson, 89, a long time resident of Clinton, died September 10, 2001, in Tucson, Arizona.

He was born on October 25, 1911, in Newell, the son of Edmond and Emma (McConnell) Wilson. He graduated from Newell High School and, in 1937, from Iowa State College. He received his Masters Degree from Colorado State College in 1970.

He taught school in Edgewood and Algona high schools before coming to Clinton in 1942. After serving in the Navy in the Pacific, he returned to Clinton in 1946 where he started the vocational building trades program, the first program of its kind in Iowa. He supervised the building of 28 homes with high school student. He taught industrial arts and coached wrestling for 25 years.

In 1939 he married Rhea Alcorn in Roscoe, South Dakota. She preceded him in death in 1970. He married Thelma A. Firman of Columbus, Ohio, in 1977.

Surviving are his son, James M. Wilson, of Redmond, Oregon; a brother, Ashley Wilson, of Woodstock, Illinois; a grandson, Todd Wilson, of Redmond; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, four sisters, and five brothers preceded him in death.

Services for Mr. Wilson will be held on Thursday at 12:00 p.m at the Nelson Heesch Funeral Home, Clinton. Internment [sic] is in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
