Richard "Rich" L. Evans, 50 of Newell, died Monday, September 17, 2001, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center following an apparent heart attack.

Richard Lee Evans was born December 30, 1950, in Pender, Neb., the son of Floyd and Mab (Martinson) Evans. He graduated from Pender High School in 1969. He was employed as a plant engineer at IBP in Storm Lake.

Rich was united in marriage to Sheila Lynn O'Sullivan on March 16, 1974, at the United Methodist Church in Wayne, Neb.

He was a former member of the Nebraska National Guard and enjoyed camping, caring for and riding his horses and training his hunting dog.

He is survived by his wife Sheila, Newell; four sons, J. Timm Evans, Laurens, Jason Evans, Wayne, Neb., and Chad and Troy Evans, Newell; a sister, Donna Anderson and her husband, Andy, Pilger, Neb.; a brother, Roger Evans and his wife, Glenda, Ft. Collins, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 21, at 10 a.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Ken Bell of Storm Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Pender, Neb. A memorial fund has been established. Fratzke Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
