Lawrence Keyes, 88, of Albert City, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Albert City.

Lawrence, the son of Clem and Elsie (Hopp) Keyes, was born Sept. 21, 1912, in Springview, Neb. He was raised by his parents in the Marathon area, attending grade school in Marathon and later graduating from Lincoln Lee High School.

He married June Grey on Dec. 28, 1936, in Blair, Neb. To this union one daughter, Mary, was born.

Mr. Keyes was a devoted farmer, retiring in 1981. He enjoying hunting and fishing in his spare time. He was a life long member of the United Methodist Church in Marathon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Elsie Keyes.

Mr. Keyes is survived by his wife June of Albert City; one daughter Mary and her husband Jim Lee of Freeport, Ill.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Keyes were held Monday, April 2, 2001, at the United Methodist Church in Marathon. Rev. David Schumann officiated at the 2:30 p.m. service. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Lee, Jeff Lee, Brian Lee, Jenny Lee, John Rasmussen and Dave Anderson.

Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City was in charge of the arrangements.
