Delwin Otteman - Jan. 25, 1923 - Mar. 29, 2001

Delwin D. Otteman, 78, of Storm Lake, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Delwin Dale, the son of William and Mary (Sievers) Otteman, was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Buena Vista County near Albert City.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Albert City. He attended school and graduated from Albert City High School. Following high school he attended Buena Vista College.

On Aug. 4, 1946, he was united in marriage to Meda B. Hauenstein at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple lived on a farm in the house where Mr. Otteman was born. In 1992 they moved to a duplex on Hudson Street in Storm Lake.

Mr. Otteman enjoyed feeding cattle and hogs while he was on the farm and playing golf and walking.

He was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake and over the years served as a board member of the Albert City Cooperative Elevator, the R.E.C., the Buena Vista Hospital and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Albert City.

Mr. Otteman was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Otteman.

He is survived by his wife Meda; one brother Arlin E. and his wife Shirley Otteman of Lake View; two sisters: Ramona (Mrs. Clifford Baack) of Newell and Dorthe and Mrs. Gerald Mermin of Bella Vista, Ark.; one brother-in-law and his wife Roy and Barbara Hauenstein of Columbus Junction and one sister-in-law Roberta (Mrs. Don Johnson) of Overland Park, Kan.

Funeral services for Mr. Otteman were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2001, at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake with Rev. Duane Queen officiating. Pallbearers were Keith Pierce, Evert Danielson, John Spooner, Paul Smith, Ken Putzier, Paul Farber and Kirk Christensen.

Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
